    Media Disconnected Networking Error

Post  Brennon on Sat Jul 09, 2011 8:34 pm

It has come to my attention that several of our customers with wireless adapters aren't able to log on to their network at some point or another. When investigated via the ipconfig command in the command prompt, it shows media disconnected. This can be due to one or more of several factors with possible remedies as follows:

Arrow If the wireless card and/or laptop has an on/off switch, please verify that it is in the "on" position

Arrow Reset the adapter by unplugging/plugging it back in from the usb port if it is a usb type adapter

Arrow Try changing the security settings of the wireless router ie: if set to WPA2, try WPA

Arrow Make sure the authentication option for 802.1x networks is off/unchecked (this is located by going to the Wireless Connection Properties box by right-clicking on the connection icon and clicking "Status", then clicking "Properties", then the "Authentication" tab

If none of the above tips help, and you cannot connect to any other networks, then the wireless adapter may need to be replaced

We sincerely hope these steps help, but if you are not comfortable on the technical level of performing any of these procedures please do not attempt and call us for our on-site networking support, Thank You!
